U.S. Embassy Sudan
Warden Message
Demonstrations
July 17, 2008

This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens to the continuing possibility of civil disturbances and demonstrations against the recent judicial action of the International Criminal Court (ICC). While the ICC is an independent institution and the United States is not involved in the ICC legal process, the Embassy has taken some increased security precautions. Specifically, U.S. Embassy personnel have been directed not to travel within Khartoum on Friday, July 18 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday, July 21 from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. In addition, Embassy personnel have been directed not to travel to any Khartoum suburb that involves crossing the Nile, including Omburman and North Khartoum.

For the latest status of Embassy operating hours and staffing, citizens can call tel (0183) 774-700/1/2/3 or check the Embassy website at sudan.usembassy.gov. As the Embassy may adjust staffing depending on the security situation, please call before traveling to the Embassy for consular service.

U.S. citizens living or traveling in Sudan despite the existing Travel Warning should register their presence in Sudan with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the Department of State's website -http://travel.state.gov/ and to obtain updated information regarding travel and security within Sudan. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of an emergency.

The U.S. Embassy is located at Sharia Ali Abdul Latif, Khartoum; tel. (249-183)774-700/1/2/3 (outside Sudan); tel (0183) 774-700/1/2/3 (inside Sudan). Americans may call between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday or email: KhartoumConsular_DL@state.gov. For after-hours emergencies, please call 0-183-774-700 and ask to be connected to the duty officer.
