Fighting in Malakal between armed militia and SPLA

This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens to fighting in Malakal between armed militia aligned with rebel leader Commander Gabriel Tang and the SPLA. There have been unconfirmed reports of fighting at the airport, machine gun fire, and explosions. Americans should avoid all travel to the area. Americans in/near Malakal should take shelter in a secure location.

U.S. citizens traveling in Sudan despite the current Travel Warning should regularly monitor the US Embassy website for updates regarding the security situation in Sudan: http://sudan.usembassy.gov/. U.S. citizens should register their presence in Sudan with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the Department of State's website (http://travel.state.gov/) and obtain updated information regarding travel and security within Sudan. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
