Warden Message-End of Travel Restriction for Americans Visiting Sudan

November 30, 2006

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the United States Embassy in Khartoum that the restriction which limited the movement of U.S citizens visiting Sudan to within a 25-mile radius of the Republican Placein Khartoum has been lifted, and is with immediate effect.

Americans living or traveling in Sudan are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website, http://travelregistration.state.gov, to obtain updated information on travel and security within Sudan.  Americans without Internet access may register directly with the United States Embassy in Khartoum.  By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.  The U.S. Embassy is located at Sharia Ali Abdul Latif, Khartoum; tel. (249-183) 774-701/2/3 (outside Sudan); tel. (0183) 774-701/2/3 inside Sudan.  Americans may call between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.  For after-hours emergencies, please call 249-183-774-705 and leave a message for the Consular Duty Officer.
