Books given to College of Arts, Music, and Drama at University of Juba
On November 30, the U.S. Consul General in Juba, Makila James, accompanied by the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section, visited the University of Juba’s College of Arts, Music, and Drama. On this occasion, several hundred new books on art, music, and theater were donated to the college’s library. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Joel Maybury underscored the importance of building up South Sudan’s educational infrastructure, and added that the book donation represented a gesture from the American people to promote greater awareness about American culture and foster mutual understanding between the people of South Sudan, and particularly its younger generation, and the American people.
During the civil war, much of the University of Juba moved to Khartoum and operated out of temporary facilities in the capital. The arts college was one of the few departments to remain in Juba. The campus in Juba is slowly recovering from the civil conflict. USAID funds are paying for a renovation of the arts college library.
