Radio Mango Celebrates Black History Month
On February 16 and 24 “Radio Mango,” a youth-oriented FM station in Khartoum, paid a musical tribute to African-American jazz artists with two, two-hour evening broadcasts. The show’s producer wove in relevant narrative to highlight the achievements of a select number of African-American heroes, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nikki Giovanni, and Langston Hughes. Listeners were able to hear Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech in its entirety. The Embassy donated many of the music CDs for the program.
