Passports

The consular office accepts applications for new and renewal passports by appointment during regular American Citizen Services hours. The Embassy estimates that citizens will receive their new passports approximately 2 to 4 weeks from date of submission. Citizens are urged to plan ahead and submit their applications two months prior to the expiration date of their passport.

Requirements—Applicants generally need to Provide:

  • evidence of identity and citizenship (e.g. old passport, original U.S. birth certificate and government issued photo ID, or naturalization certificate);
  • two recent full front face photographs (2"x 2" against a light background on thin, unglazed paper);
  • a completed application form; and
  • Passport fees are listed on the Fees for Selected Consular Services page
  • copies of all original documents

In emergency cases, the Embassy will be able to issue limited validity passports for immediate travel. These limited validity passports will not, however, be renewable. Persons issued a limited validity passport will need to apply for a standard photo-digitized passport.

Passport applications are now available for downloading or printing.  To find out how to do this and to obtain passport applications on-line, go to the Download Passport Applications page.

Extra pages can be added to a passport at no charge. Please note that all passport applicants must appear in person at the Consular section.

The Consular Section is open to the public by appointment between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Sunday and Tuesday except during Sudanese and American holidays.
