Lost Check
Monthly Social Security checks are normally received at the beginning of each month. If you wish to report loss of a Social Security check, please contact the Consular Section, from 2:00 PM until 4:00PM, Sunday through Thursday. Provide the name and Social Security claim number of the beneficiary whose check is lost; when the lost check was expected; and for what month it was issued. Please note that the Social Security check is issued retroactively. For example, a check received in January is issued for the previous month, i.e. December. When corresponding with the SSA from overseas, allow 120 days for a reply.
