If you feel your life or safety is threatened, or would like to report a crime, please contact the Sudanese Police. The U.S. Embassy does not guarantee your safety in Sudan; this is the responsibility of the government of Sudan.
If you are a U.S. citizen with an after-hours emergency, please call our hotline at + 249-187-022000 and ask to speak to the Embassy duty officer. For non-emergency situations, please use our general contact number by calling +249-187-022871 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, excluding U.S. and Sudanese public holidays and the last working day of the month.
The U.S. Embassy has limited authority to act in Sudan. Sudan is a sovereign country and is responsible for the safety of all persons in Sudan, including U.S. citizens. In emergencies, you should contact the Sudanese authorities directly.

What do I report to the U.S. Embassy?
Please report deaths, arrests, and serious injuries or accidents resulting in hospital stays to the U.S. Embassy at + 249-187-022000. In emergencies, the U.S. Embassy will help you communicate with your family in the United States, understand local procedures, and may be able to provide other assistance, as appropriate.
What if my family needs to reach me?
If your family needs to reach you because of an emergency at home or because they are worried about your welfare, they should call the Department of State's American Citizen Emergency Center at +001 (202) 647-5225. The Department of State will relay the message to local consular officers, who will try to locate you, pass on urgent messages, and report back to your family, while acting in accordance with the Privacy Act.
